THE SAGA

4X4 Four Wheeling with Gutti. The true history and life of INDENDENT PEOPLE in ISLAND.

And of course we have to include a few views of an Alaskan Camper. If you have not traveled to Island, Iceland for us non-natives, you have missed the true experience of adventure, wilderness and spectacular beauty. And now the SAGA, as told by Viking Gutti.
This is the 19th of June in Thorsmork.
This is in Thorsmörk. It is a valley just under the Eyjafjallajökull (glacier). You pass the intersection on your way to Reykjavík from the Northeast. Just before you drive over the river Markarfljót, the next town is Hvolsvöllur. We spent four days there. It is a wonderful valley, Old forest, lots of birds and best of all not many people yet, until later in summer. So we usually go there early and late in summer. The autumn is spectacular and there are lots of berries too.
Two lovely young ladies.
There are several rivers to ford. One has to be careful to find the right place each time. Therefore, I usually wade the river in advance to see if the bottom is ok. As you can imagine I am not suitable for this, too short or at least too light, I wish you were here! Anyway. I just lost my front license plate this time. This time there was some water in the river and stream too. Astrídur was very happy when the other bank was reached.
The sun will shine 23 hours this time of the year. We are camping at the beach? I think you will also see some rocky island at the horizon. That is Drangey. Grettir lived there for many years. He was an outlaw. One time his fire died and he swam from Drange to this peninsula. After swimming he warmed up in this warm pond, Grettislaug. Just recently it was restored and the old homes sitting on the coast are supposed to show the old time. Grettir got the fire. "He must have been a hell of a man."

We are planing our next trip to Skagafjördur. This time with all the kids. We will have a new Saga (tale) for you then.

Gutti

Fill up with Texaco, "you can trust your car to the man who wears the star". Well, maybe there is no star and it may not be Texaco, but did you know every gas station offers free water and a brush to clean your vehicle?

The 4x4 is a Ford with a Chev diesel, Icelandic ingenuity at work and play.

You should see what they do to their buses!

Low on fuel?
