| Alaskan Camper Hydraulic Lift System
Subject: Re: Alaskan Camper Hydraulic Lift System Don, I finally got a chance to work on my camper a few days ago. I had talked to Bryan after I got your note. Please let Bryan know that he was correct. The battery was run down. After I charged the battery and closed both valves I was able to get fluid to flow to the front cylinders. With the suggested adjustment sequence and a good battery charge I was able to get the top to go up and down. I am really grateful for your help and support. Bryan suggested I might want to consider an upgrade to the bigger cylinders you are using now. I may do that. Maybe next year on our way to Alaska we can stop and get that done. I'll let you know when we are coming that way so we can schedule. Thanks again for a great product and great support. Rod Hubbard Fargo, ND -----Original Message----- Rodney, The pump is not functioning as it should, that is obvious. What is not obvious is why. The pump should run continuously until the top is in the full up position, this should take no more than 30 - 40 seconds. It sounds like the pump is straining, overheating and then shutting down. Now the question is; why is it under such a heavy load? The pistons could be bent. The piston you reset could be out of alignment. The top could be sticking or binding on something. The top may not be going up level and it will then bind in the tracks. Since the top originally went up properly, I delivered it to Tom, something has happened between then and now to cause the problem. If the top is not going up or coming down level and this is causing it to bind, the adjustments to correct this are simple, but must be done minutely (1/8 - 1/4 turns) on the adjusting knobs. If the battery is low the pump will run slower and not work properly even if plugged into 110 volts. You could replace the pistons with the new larger ones we now use. They lift more weight and don't make the pump work as hard. They are expensive, $125.00 each plus installation. This is something we would have to do here since they require a modified attachment, they are 1-1/2 inches in diameter. If the pump has to be replaced it will cost about $575.00. At this time it is hard to say what is happening. I would like to suggest a trip out to see us so we can look at the camper. It will probably be best to call this morning so we can more fully understand the problem and offer some advice. This is the best I can suggest right now. Don Wheat |
